I am visiting Tas for 1 month and will be travelling around the state. I love going to local markets and I’m keen to hear where these might be around the state.

The 2 largest and most popular markets or Salamanca in Hobart on Saturdays and Penguin markets (in Penguin about 30kms out of Devonport) each Saturday & Sunday.
There are lots of other markets held each weekend in small towns, the ones I know of are near Hobart in Sorell and Longford

I work for an employer that pays me $500 per week salary. I work Monday through Friday from 9am until 6pm and on Saturday from 9am until 2pm. Typically I have been asked to come in by 8am and I leave around 8 or 9pm every day (except Saturday which remains 9-2). I am also compensated by commission above-and-beyond my salary, which is why I took such a small salary compared to my other jobs. I was promised, as the sales manager, that I would make money on everything that gets sold from the company, including an over-ride from the telemarketing department since i would be re-creating it form the ground up. I started January 25, 2010 and things have been going fine until 2 months ago. I had to train a person to handle the telemarketing department at night because I was getting burnt out, and the over-riode was to be split, but I was still responsible for the payroll. The company stopped paying me the over-ride because they wanted t\me to focus on sales (where I am strongest; even though tele-sales is sales). That took approximately $150-200 per week away from my earnings. Now only the technicians are getting the client opportunites to sell equipment (I only get the leads once the tech or the owner have tried to sell the client; time to me receiving the lead is about 3-4 weeks from inception date). To put it simply, the company has changed many processes which has eliminated the chances for me to actusally realize any type of commission; furthermore, the salary I make of $500 is not enough by itself to support myself, my wife, and our 3 children (not counting the child support I pay for my 2 oldest children from a previous marriage). I can not financially support my family with how I am being compensated now that everything has changed. On Friday, the owner had mentioned cutting back my salary down to $350 or less since there are no sales. Keep in ind before the system was changed i generated over $600,000 in sales revenue with a 45% margin of profit, I returned the company’s equipment sales back to 2007 levels (and we were down 40% year-over-year before I came to the company), and the profit levels are now 60-100% higher than any other fiscal year before I came on board. This was with the strategies and plans I put into place- since we brought on the new GM, he and the owner have created this new system that isn’t working. They tell me to deal with it or I canquit if I don’t like it here (and I ask nicely for more opportujnities, not a raise, just more opportunity to sell and make money for the company which will in turn generate commission for me). I REALLY FEEL STUCK BETWEEN A ROCK AND A HARD PLACE, AND MY FAMILY PAYING THE PRICE FOR IT. SOMEONE PLEASE HELP!
Thank everyone for the response. It is clearly indicated in the law handbook, for the State of ILlinois that there are certain exceptions to voluntarily quitting and still being able to receive unemployment benefits. I was making $650 a week ($500 salary plus the over-ride from the telemarketing department), which was given to someone else with the personal guarantee from the owner that I will be compensated if the new sales structure was not favorable. Being that the new structure is not working to the advantage of the company or myself, I have asked about it and told that my salary may be cut to $350 (a $300 reduction in overall pay since working here). Furthermore, I have no more access to Outlook (email) so that I can correspond with my clients/ prospective clients, the Successware 21 information system we utilize to track client accounts for the purpose of quoting new equipment has also been taken away. With no true full ability to work with clients it is impossible to do my job.

No. When you quit your job, that makes you ineligible for unemployment.
